20世纪初，基督教青年会在中国发展迅速，至20世纪20年代，上海青年会的干事们又成立了西侨青年会，并专门建造会所大楼，其中就包括西侨青年会大楼，即现今体育大厦，以服务在沪侨民。通过对文献资料的搜集、归纳和分析，梳理该会所大楼的筹建始末、与上海青年会的关系以及建造完成后承担的社会角色和功能等方面。

英文摘要:

At the beginning of the 20th century, Y.M.C.A. developed quickly in China. In 1920s, the officials of Shanghai YMCA set up Foreign YMCA and built a building for the federation in order to provide service for the expatriates in Shanghai. The building is called Sports Building now. Through the collection and analysis of the literature, the article details the information about the preparation and construction of the building, the relations between Foreign Y.M.C.A.and Shanghai Y.M.C.A. and the social role and function of the building after its completion.
