Athlete perfectionism has been defined as a multidimensional personality disposition characterized by striving for flawlessness and setting exceedingly high standards of performance accompanied by overly critical evaluations of one's behavior. In sports, athlete perfectionism is directly related to athletes' physical and mental health, competitive performance, and many other aspects. Adopting a literature-based approach and combining both horizontal and vertical comparative perspectives, this study aims to introduce the conceptual development and classification of athlete perfectionism and to analyse related theoretical models, including the tripartite model, 2×2 model, and cognitive-behavioral model. Based on the positive psychology perspective, future research could investigate the moderating effects of individual and situational variables on athlete perfectionism, strengthen relevant longitudinal and qualitative studies, improve the research on the neurobiological mechanisms of athlete perfectionism, and focus on exerting the adaptive influence of athlete perfectionism, in order to provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for the development of psychological training programs for athletes. |
