| The way for the transmission of modern football in China was not smooth. Football, as a game, has deeply intervened in the spiritual world of the Chinese people and indirectly affected the modernization process of China. While being introduced to Hong Kong and Shanghai, football was once closely linked to both sports and education, together with scholarliness and martial spirit. But later this tradition was gradually disintegrated. Football was introduced into China through the efforts of the missionaries, seamen and schools. All the three ways of transmission carried with them a gentle cultural style, which effectively promoted the progress of sports and even society in China and strengthened the Chinese people’s understanding of the British legal system. Modern football appeared in the Victorian Era in England. During that time, England created the second peak of the sports development of mankind after the ancient Olympic Games. It quickly realized industrialization, which helped the boost of rubber industry. And the quality improvement of the football bladder obviously depended on rubber industry. Naturally, the transmission of football in China carried a flavor of the Victorian Times. The influence of modern football on China lies in the consciousness of sport regulations. The football transmission in China has clearly surpassed the regulations and possesses a comprehensive social and cultural value. |
