Whether an athlete can return to play as soon as possible after the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and surgery is a common concern among athletes, coaches, medical teams and sports team managers. The key to the concern is to be "early" and "safe". This study discussed the factors affecting the early and safe return to the play, and resolved the problems related to anterior cruciate ligament injury and returning to play after the treatment. Determining the time to return is based on the accurate judgment of the injury type, the characteristics of the sport, and knowledge of the routine return time after surgery. From the safety point of view, it is vital to prevent the anterior cruciate ligament from being injured again, to know more appropriate surgical methods, graft and the evaluation methods for athletes to return to play, and to attach importance to the biological healing characteristics of the graft while emphasizing the rehabilitation.
